Every issue of my fanzine (The Original Universe) ends with my To-Do list. I always end with the same Someday (Maybe): go to this convention.
It’s like GenCon for gamers, mecca. I’ve attended that twice in the early 1990s, but can’t anymore, due to cost and logistics.
Same things for SDCC. I didn’t think it would ever happen.
The pandemic changed that, in a good way.
Because of the Lockdown, the actual live convention was canceled. Instead, they are running a virtual one with panels on YouTube, available worldwide. Even better, it’s free! No budget worries.
I won’t get to meet the celebs, there won’t be room parties — but I’ll be there.
As I write this, I’ll be doing what I’ve only dreamed about starting July 23rd.
